Celebrating 10 years of bridal magazine greatness, Fran Samuel, the publisher of Phoenix Bride and Groom magazine, invited Arizona's top wedding vendors to participate in a fun-filled evening extravaganza commemorating the event.
The event took place at the Arizona Grand Ballroom, located in the hiker-friendly foothills of South Mountain.
This was an incredible collaboration of extremely talented and creative minds. Jim and Ken of Events by Showstoppers and Victoria Canada, wedding coordinator extraordinaire, and her team. They poured months of detailed planing into turning an enormous empty space into a warm, inviting, imaginative, and fun party.
The participation lent by all of the thirty-or-so vendors is really too much to note here. The caterer and vendor's names are on the cute, turn-of-the-century-esque, name posters that Victoria and her team created, so you can see most of the participating vendors in the slideshow below.
We also want to mention that there was a fun video of interviews and outtakes of vendors congratulating Fran, and the team at the magazine, that kicked off the evening, put together by Serendipity Videography.
Click on the image below to start the slideshow right here on this page, or click here to start the slideshow in a new window.
Here are some favorite images of ours from the cover shoot, some of which are also included in the magazine. Shot on location by both Katrina and Andrew at L'Auberge de Sedona and West Fork hiking area in the Coconino National Forest in Oak Creek Canyon.
Follow the green grass road... to a magical rose petal carpet. In Showstoppers' signature, over-the-top and original style, they created a detailed rose petal carpet with the petals of 800 roses! Wow. Typical of these guys to go so above and beyond in all they do!
I (Katrina) LOVE bougainvillea's... I was thrilled to see them as an accent of purple in the bouquet. The bouquet and center piece was created by Ken at Events by Showstoppers.
Our lovely model, Megan Batenic, in a beautiful hair accessory Patricia Vega, renowned Argentinian hair and makeup artist, created last minute for us after a shipment of hair accessories failed to arrive. Patricia is not only a very talented hair and makeup artist, but she also creates the most amazing hair accessories.
Our two gorgeous models, Megan Batenic and Andrew Blake... You two were a lot of fun! :) Katrina's angle on the left, Andrew's on the right...
The image that became the cover photo and inspiration for the color theme of the 10th anniversary party! The table, chairs, plates, etc., are from our friend Deb at Tri-Rentals Rentals. I (Andrew) really like this image Katrina got because the model, Andrew, surprised Megan with this kiss, and Katrina was right on it to snag the just the right moment :)
I (Katrina) LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot by Andrew... it did not make the editorial in this issue, but it's gorgeous and one of my favorite's from the shoot. Isn't the daffodil boa fabulous?! Another over-the-top idea from Jim and Ken at Events by Showstoppers.
...and here are the pictures for the party that was 10 years in the making! :) We cannot stress what a fabulous and wonderful team Victoria, and Jim and Ken made. Their collaboration created the most amazing event. As Fran, the publisher of Phoenix Bride and Groom, later put it, "Dreams really do come true...!"
Victoria had old fashioned posters created to mark every participating vendor. In combination with all the amazing details of the clown on stilts, jugglers, and acrobats, and even a popcorn station with flavored popcorn (cheesy chipotle popcorn and jalapeno-pineapple popcorn!) there was no detail left behind :)
Those are *cactus* in the floral arrangement! Ken at Events By Showstoppers created them as well as all the carrot and celery center pieces.
Instead of a candy bar ... a popcorn bar! How fun is that!? What a great idea from Victoria.
The first part of the party was all black and white... After the opening speeches everyone was then invited into the other half of the enormous tent for the remainder of the party, which was gorgeous with bright, vibrant colors.
2000 roses were used to make this amazing rose petal carpet!!
...the first issue, held by Fran, and the latest issue, held by Jennifer Rabito :)
Jim, of Events by Showstoppers, getting into the acrobat's ring... Showstoppers put together the rose petal carpet, all of the floral arrangements, lighting, backdrops, drapery, and palm trees; nearly everything that you see upon first glance.
One of the most fun things about having a rose petal carpet is getting to throw around the thousands of petals! A shot of Victoria and the girls from her studio that worked so hard to put it all together...

If you haven't had a chance, check out the Winter/Spring 2009 issue of Phoenix Bride and Groom magazine. We were blessed to not only have Mary and Jim's storybook Sedona wedding at L'Auberge de Sedona featured, but also a good amount of editorial work as well.
Many thanks to our amazing couples ~ Katie+Lee wedding in Mexico!!, Crystal+Matt's wedding in Prescott, and all our weddings in Sedona ... Sara+Drew, Aimee+Albert, Mary+Jim, Jessica+Charles, Kara+Will, Jennifer+AJ, Catherine+Troy, Daramee+Damon, Kate+Joerg, and April+Jake ~ whose images were in the magazine. You are a big part of the reason we love what we do :) Also, thanks to Fran and her team for such a consistently cool magazine :)
All the images below are our images (Katrina Wallace and Andrew Mejia), with the exception of the cover of the magazine which was shot by our talented friend Ben Quillinan.
I love this full feature about the "groom".... we always try to photograph the groom and his guys before the wedding as well. It's such an important part of the day and makes for some fabulous pictures to remember a wedding day by!
And these two images below of Katie and Lee's wedding in Cabo San Lucas at the beautiful Dreams Resort.

Several months ago our good friend Hollye Schumacher, an amazing Scottsdale-based photographer, called us and asked if we could help her out by shooting a wedding for her. The date of the wedding had to be moved and it fell on her sister's wedding date. We of course were more than happy to help out!
We found out, too, that the wedding had been slated for filming for the television series Platinum Weddings, which features on the WeTV network.
Click here to see the slideshow of our shoot for Summer and Matthew's amazing wedding. Hollye and her team provided post-production and posting of the slideshow for the client.
Here are some of our faves from the shoot. Enjoy!

We were happy to be invited recently to participate in the Style Me Pretty, Little Black Book of Wedding Vendors (aka, the LBB), which is a very small, nationwide collection, of boutique wedding vendors that specialize in eclectic, artful, and detail-oriented wedding services.
May 15th, 2008, is the scheduled launch date for the Sedona listing.
Part of what makes the LBB so refreshing is that it's not just another website crammed full of links to wedding vendor websites from A to Z. It's an invitation only listing, limited to 3 vendors per service per market. Our listing will be for the Sedona, Phoenix and Scottsdale, and Las Vegas markets.
Upon skimming through the website state-by-state, we were humbled to realize what great company we're among by being listed there, many of which are friends of ours and whose work we really admire.
Thanks to Abby and Michelle at Style Me Pretty for the invitation. We gratefully and humbly accept :)

We've been behind on blogging the publications in which we've been. Back in January we had Emily and Nick's wedding at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale featured in the Most Beautiful Weddings of 2007 issue.
Emily and Nick had so many amazing details to their wedding. We loved that both their father's married them. My dad married Andrew and I, so of course we thought it was a fabulous idea. Emily had a elegant dress from Kleinfeld of Manhattan and the wedding was a great success with the expert help of wedding coordinator Karen Doan. Colorful floral decor by Table Tops Etc.
Here's a link to their slideshow, you can see that was very a very beautiful wedding, indeed.
Here are a few images of what was published:

On Sunday night at 9pm MST ( mountain standard time), check out the Food Network to see our good friend and amazing cake artist, Andrea Blaut on the Food Network Challenge! We're so proud of her and not at all surprised that she'd be on national TV. Her cakes are absolutely amazing and we think she's one of the best cake artists in the country. The Food Network must obviously agree by having her on the Food Network Challenge.
In the last few weeks we've been working with them to get of our images on the episode as well, so this is the first time our images will be on national television!
Congratulations to Andrea; we can't wait to see you tonight on the tube! Hopefully baby Kaiden will be asleep so we can watch without interruption... :)
Here are a few images we've shot of her fabulous cakes. Her attention to detail is amazing. Most of our clients have a hard time cutting into the cakes during the cake cut because it's so beautiful. The cherry on top is that they taste amazing as well!
If you get a chance on this short notice, be sure to tune in... Enjoy the images!
Andrea won Silver Medal in the ACF's 2007 Culinary Competition for this fun cake. I had to post this image as well because our baby Kaiden is in it checking out the cake with Andrea. Too cute!
A quick shot Katrina got of Andrea and her wonderful husband Jay on one of our shoots.

As we reported in an earlier post, celebrity event designer, and all-around wedding anything superhero, Scott Corridan, came to Scottsdale, Arizona, to speak about creatively meeting the dynamic challenges of the wedding market. Corridan, also of HGTV's Design Star fame, shared his heart and his philosophy with all in attendance.
This event, which took place at the majestically rustic Los Cedros Arabian horse stables, was full of amazing charm nothing short of old Andalucia, Spain.
We want to extend a big thanks to Fran Samuel, the publisher of Phoenix Bride and Groom magazine, for hosting such a fun and interesting event!

Enjoy the images!

Check out either the WPJA.com or the AGWPJA.com to see Katrina's winning images, and then also the fantastic images from other photographers that are helping to shape the industry in which we work.
We're honored, and I am especially pleased ( as her husband), to have Katrina's name up there in the overall top ten with photographers who's work we really admire and respect.
The photographers at VII Photo Agency are truly amazing photojournalists. Be sure to see their work on the VII website. If you don't see it there, I'm sure you'll be seeing their images soon enough in the latest headlines.
Below are some screen-captures from the WPJA.com and AGWPJA.com website, with Katrina's name circled in red.
And here are the images...
A 3rd place in the transportation category:
A 5th place in the groom getting ready category:
And a 2nd place in the bride getting ready category, which also placed 2nd in the AGWPJA.com getting ready category. We'll show the AGWPJA image since that's the one we get to retouch and tone. There is a rule that WPJA images cannot be enhanced in any way, but the Artistic Guild lets photographers enhance images in any way they'd like. We get to do all the artistic enhancements we would have done in the traditional darkroom via computer, minus the yucky chemicals.
We want to say a special thanks to our clients Sara and Drew, Tonja and Ed, and Kate and Joerg, for entrusting us with the documentation of their beautiful weddings, and from whose weddings these winning images came. This would not have been possible without their love and their excitement for photography! You guys are amazing!
Blessings! Andrew + Katrina

On January 30th, Phoenix Bride and Groom Magazine will be hosting An Affair to Remember in Scottsdale, featuring the celebrity weddings and events decorator Scott Corridan. Scott will be speaking about ways to creatively meet the challenges of a dynamic wedding marketplace.
We are honored that Fran Samuel, the publisher of the magazine, will be featuring some of our shots of the fabulous scroll invitation they had sent out to all prospective guests.
Here's what the premise of the contest was per the Brides.com website:
" Inspired by the pictures our editors have been seeing—images that remind us how poignant and precious (and funny!) every wedding is—Brides asked members of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) to enter their work in our first-ever photo contest.
Pictures were divided up into 10 categories, and after poring over hundreds of submissions, we chose the work in each category that best captured the magic and memories of this day of days.
From hipster groomsmen to precious little attendants, these photographers were able to capture the unique feeling of these couple's wedding days with an especially artistic eye."
Here's what the WPJA judges had to say about our winning images:
" JUDGES COMMENTS: Images should make us feel something. A wedding presents an entire day of emotions. But a sensitive photographer sees the world in a unique way – shooting images we can feel and taste. Look at this image long enough and you can feel her hand (or his) curled through your own fingers. That is the “magic” of great photography.
The photographer has chosen to concentrate on the details. They have played off of the bouquet to accentuate the flowers in the bride's dress yet still captured a sweet moment between the bride and groom."
" JUDGES COMMENTS: There is no doubt this scene has been repeated thousands of times, yet, this is the first I've ever seen it. These are the images we know exist, the moments that pass by in a glance, but until a sensitive photographer sees and records it, it is almost as though they have never happened."
A big congratulations to the WPJA and Brides.com for their collaboration, which calls attention to outstanding wedding photography worldwide!
