We love photographing a Sedona engagement session because it gives us a chance to get to know our clients better and really connect. It’s easy to have a phone call or Skype meeting but once the camera is up everyone usually gets nervous (including us when we are in front of the camera) … so having this time to connect is great. An engagement session breaks the ice between the camera and the couple and makes our job on the wedding much easier because trust is established and we are able just jump in and photograph our clients in a natural state … having fun and enjoying their family and friends.
Bell Rock is one of the most popular Sedona engagement session locations because it is very easy to access. A parking lot on the north side of the Bell Rock is where we usually explore the Bell Rock trail and a quick 10 to 15 minute hike (easy hike) gets us up high enough to get amazing 360 degree views of the red rocks, which is a stunning backdrop for engagement session photos. The timing is a bit tricky …. we suggest not going right near sunset because the shadow from the surrounding mesa shades the couple while the red rocks are very brightly lit in the backdrop. We prefer going a bit earlier to the location so that we can follow the last of the light up Bell Rock as it sets behind the mesa. And on a partly cloudy day like Katelyn and Darrin had, Bell Rock delivers with amazing views and beautiful lighting.
Katelyn and Darrin are having their wedding in Sedona at Sedona Golf Resort this winter! It’s such a beautiful location; one we really enjoy photographing weddings at. Most importantly, Katelyn and Darrin are an amazing couple! We can already tell from our time at their Sedona engagement session that their wedding day is going to be full of lots of fun emotions and plenty of wonderful moments! We can’t wait to be a part of their wedding team which will include Katie and her amazing staff at Sedona Golf Resort; Andrea at Sedona Cake Couture will be providing the beautiful wedding cake; Chanel Molleo will be the hair and makeup artist (Chanel also did Katelyn’s hair and makeup for this engagement session); Bobby from Sedona Sounds will be the DJ, and last but not least Mountain High will be the florist! It’s a great team!
