We love photographing a Sedona engagement session because it gives us a chance to get to know our clients better and really connect. It’s easy to have a phone call or Skype meeting but once the camera is up everyone usually gets nervous (including us when we are in front of the camera) … so having this time to connect is great. An engagement session breaks the ice between the camera and the couple and makes our job on the wedding much easier because trust is established and we are able just jump in and photograph our clients in a natural state … having fun and enjoying their family and friends.

Bell Rock is one of the most popular Sedona engagement session locations because it is very easy to access. A parking lot on the north side of the Bell Rock is where we usually explore the Bell Rock trail and a quick 10 to 15 minute hike (easy hike) gets us up high enough to get amazing 360 degree views of the red rocks, which is a stunning backdrop for engagement session photos. The timing is a bit tricky …. we suggest not going right near sunset because the shadow from the surrounding mesa shades the couple while the red rocks are very brightly lit in the backdrop. We prefer going a bit earlier to the location so that we can follow the last of the light up Bell Rock as it sets behind the mesa. And on a partly cloudy day like Katelyn and Darrin had, Bell Rock delivers with amazing views and beautiful lighting.

Katelyn and Darrin are having their wedding in Sedona at Sedona Golf Resort this winter! It’s such a beautiful location; one we really enjoy photographing weddings at. Most importantly, Katelyn and Darrin are an amazing couple! We can already tell from our time at their Sedona engagement session that their wedding day is going to be full of lots of fun emotions and plenty of wonderful moments! We can’t wait to be a part of their wedding team which will include Katie and her amazing staff at Sedona Golf Resort; Andrea at Sedona Cake Couture will be providing the beautiful wedding cake; Chanel Molleo will be the hair and makeup artist (Chanel also did Katelyn’s hair and makeup for this engagement session); Bobby from Sedona Sounds will be the DJ, and last but not least Mountain High will be the florist! It’s a great team!

We hope you enjoy the images from their Sedona engagement session at Bell Rock! Be sure to drop by the engagement sessions page on our website for more photos of gorgeous engagement sessions in Sedona.

One of our favorite images from Shelbi and Justin’s recent Sedona wedding. They really couldn’t be a sweeter couple! We’re really looking forward to sharing their wedding day story in a few weeks!

In the meantime a little background about the day and location for those of you working on planning a Sedona wedding. Shelbi and Justin’s wedding day was a perfectly sunny with the highs in the 80’s … it can still be a little toasty in September so we were all very glad for the warm but lower Arizona temperatures.

The Cottage Side Lawn at L’Auberge provided the perfect amount of shade for their family portraits and bridal party pictures… we were shooting several hours before sunset so the shade was very welcome and made for some beautiful backlit photos. For those that aren’t familiar with Arizona, it’s surprising to know how green and lush Arizona can be. When people think of Arizona they usually think of the beautiful Saguaro and desert that is the backdrop of much of Arizona. Oak Creek runs through the heart of Sedona and the trees grow big and beautiful and border the creek through Sedona. The towering white Sycamore trees, buzz of the summer cicadas and rumble of the creek made such a soothing scene for us while we were at L’Auberge. It’s no wonder L’Auberge is such a popular location for weddings in Sedona.

L’Auberge is also the perfect honeymoon suite choice for couples getting married anywhere in Sedona … It’s not uncommon for us to take prep pictures at L’Auberge and then go offsite for a wedding on the red rocks and then back to L’Auberge for an intimate dinner. For couples having their wedding at Sedona Golf Resort, Rancho Los Lagos etc. where there are no room accommodations having a room at L’Auberge is a rewarding post wedding treat. The outdoor showers and the wood burning fireplaces in the rooms paired with a massage at their spa makes for a perfect post wedding day full of relaxation. The Sunday brunch is also amazing and definitely worth staying longer in Sedona for if you can!

L’Auberge de Sedona offers quintessential views of the Sedona landscape, as well as the quintessential Sedona experience! Where else in Sedona can you experience the sweeping red-rock views, and nearly in the same moment also enjoy the lush, wet, greenery of Oak Creek? We are big fans of L’Auberge, and have enjoyed shooting weddings there for many years!

Spirit Song Terrace is a ceremony venue location on property that offers an incredible view of the Sedona Landscape from high along the foothills of the mountains in Sedona. Directly across from the ceremony venue is a famous red-rock area that slowly climbs upward which includes Snoopy Rock, the Cow Pies, and Merry-Go-Round rock. Just to the right is the famous Broken Arrow area, which includes Submarine rock, that Walt Disney used as inspiration for Fantasia.

Stacey and Brian’s wedding took place entirely on the L’Auberge de Sedona property. Their family and friends from around the country came in to Sedona to celebrate their love at this destination wedding! Stacey and Brian have a baby girl, and she also got to dazzle with her chubby baby cheeks.

Their dinner and reception took place at the Monet Ballroom. The setup is great because guests can walk right down a nice path to a fun garden lawn right outside the doors of the ballroom, which is perfect for a cocktail hour in the cooler, post-sunset hours!

An Sedona engagement session is almost always guaranteed to wow. Where else can you have your pictures taken and sort of feel like you’ve been to the surface of Mars? Even if your wedding is taking place somewhere else, Sedona still ranks as one of the most beautiful little corners of our country and an engagement session in Sedona will create fun memories of something unique you got to do with your fiancé. This shoot took place in the winter and Sedona looks as beautiful as ever (as do Sarah and Nat!). The although winter isn’t the most popular time for a Sedona engagement session it definitely is one of the most beautiful times of the year with the sun riding low in the sky during winter months, it’s a beautiful time for photography.

Sarah and Nat, who are not strangers to these parts, are full of smiles. They are super head-over-heals for each other. It was so fun to spend a beautiful winter afternoon with them playing in Sarah’s old stomping grounds. She spent a lot of time around Red Rock Crossing ( also known as the Cathedral Rock area, or even Crescent Moon Ranch; every rock formation in Sedona has one or two names!) as a kid, so it was super special for them to have their engagement session photos taken in Sedona, making new memories somewhere so meaningful to her. And now, it’s meaningful to them both for new reasons!

We also got to explore an area we’ve never hiked before. Thank you for that Sarah! We hope that the East Coast weather isn’t treating you too badly, and that these pictures warm you up and remind you of sunny Arizona!

Sarah and Nat’s wedding later took place at the incredible Alcantara Vineyards and Winery, with the ceremony taking place at their incredible onsite chapel, and the reception taking place on the beautiful tasting lawn! Stand by for more pictures. And as well, some links to great Sedona wedding vendors!

ps > a warm shout-out to the ladies at Sedona Beauty Team for doing an excellent job on hair and makeup!

Sophia and Ryan’s wedding at Sky Ranch Lodge, Sedona, was an incredibly beautiful day, complete with a gorgeous couple reciting their vows against the majestic beauty of a quintessential Sedona, Arizona, red rock backdrop from atop Airport Mesa in West Sedona.

This couple had their first meeting at the other-worldly Tlaquepaque, which sits comfortably underneath gigantic Sycamore trees along Oak Creek. Tlaquepaque is so unique because it is the only place in northern Arizona where you can be fooled into thinking you’re in old colonial-Spanish Mexico, or even perhaps a small town in Tuscany.

While gorgeous Sedona sunsets are not always a guarantee, the opposite is not half-bad. The high elevation and desert dryness make Sedona perfect for romantic blue dusk skies, and a twilight that will take your breath away!
